The Mistake almost every engaged couple makes first, please read, this will save you a lot of time, frustration and money

Alexandria Design House Based in Vaughan Serving Toronto and The GTA Offering Real Value Advice for Engaged couples. Truth Teller

What’s your story?

How should this feel?

What actually matters to you?

Start there, not with how you want it to look.

This is all too common, we've witness this pattern for over 16 years.

Most couples start with aesthetics before they’ve built the foundation.

They pick flowers. Colors. The look.” Before choosing the right space. Before knowing their story. Before understanding how the event should actually feel.

And then they wonder why it never fully comes together, or perhaps lacks energy, emotion?

Here’s the truth no one says clearly or loud enough:

You can’t decorate your way out of a bad foundation. You can spend $20K + on florals in a venue that fights your vision, and it will still feel off.

Because design isn’t what you add. It’s what you build from.

What actually works (in order)

  • Get clear on you! What’s the story? What do you want your event to feel like, what experience and emotions do you want your guest to feel?

  • Secure the right venue. Not just available. Not just “nice.”

  • A space that flows with your vision, not against it.

  • Then start designing.

Now everything has direction. Now every decision is intentional. * (If Design is a top priority for you and Budget doesn't align with the vision, then, Yes... guest count matters, will talk about that soon)

The fact is, most people decorate to cover gaps.

They add more. Fill more. Spend more. Trying to fix something that was never right to begin with. But the reality in Ontario right now? We are currently facing a perfect storm. Between 50% spikes in floral tariffs and skyrocketing labor costs, the era of 'cheap decor' or 'just add more decor' in Ontario is officially over.

In 2026, the win isn’t more. It’s precision. A clean room. Strong lighting. Intentional placement. Space that breathes. And that is a clear representation of you, not some copy paste version of someone else's event. Trust me, that’s harder to execute than a room full of flowers. Because there’s nowhere to hide mistakes.

Bottom line

If you want it to feel right, start with the foundation, then you will know who is asking the right questions to build your story. Everything else will follow.
